Unit athletes shred the 2008 BMX Games

Tuesday, 5 February 2008
Each year the best BMX’ers from around Australia battle it out over a 3 day event called the BMX Games. The event covers all five disciplines of Freestyle BMX (vert, mini ramp, street, dirt and flatland), with winners taking home a share of $40,000 in cash and prizes.

Unit athlete Tim Wood destroyed the competition in vert, pulling his trademark tricks such as no handed 540’s, turndown flair’s and of course the 900. What made this 900 even more spectacular was the fact that prior to pulling it, Tim had a big crash going for a double tailwhip and managed to put his knee though the wooden surface on the ramp!

Unit was the major sponsor of the 2008 BMX Games street competition, but unfortunately both of our street riders (Niki Buckard and Nick Cooper) had to pull out due to shoulder injuries. The street comp still managed to go off with USA superstar Mike Spinner taking first place.

The dirt competition saw Unit rider’s Cam White and Cam Pianta putting through some very impressive runs in their heats, easily qualifying for the finals later that day. Cam Pianta was on fire in the finals, but it would be Cam White who would prove his dominance in dirt, taking home the first place position with ease.
